Resumes donโ€™t get read, they get skimmed. Put the information that really matters where it will be found with a quick skim. Iโ€™ve already posted about how to change your summary paragraph to be skim-friendly. So letโ€™s talk about how you tweak the roles in your professional experience section. There are 3 key points:


๐Ÿ’ก Showing your impact is always good. Anecdotal is OK. If you can quantify it, so much the better. Percentages stand out, so figure those out for each role if you can. They donโ€™t have to be exact. And they donโ€™t have to be yours alone, they can be the impact made by a team that you belonged to. Peek in your CRM. Talk it through with a friend. Ask your peers, your sales team, your manager. Look at public financial statements. ๐—œ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜† ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜€ ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜† ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜† ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ, ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜† ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฑ ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜.


๐Ÿ’ก Include your impact in the bullets you write about your roles. ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐—น๐—ฒ ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜€ ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ด๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ, ๐—ฎ ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ณ ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜. Think skim. Some job seekers do this already - but not in the strongest way. I often see bullets written in the form โ€œI did this, and this was the impactโ€. For example, โ€œI executed digital marketing campaigns for the widget product line, helping to grow sales by 6%โ€ Not bad, but flip it to have more impact. โ€œI helped grow sales 6% by executing digital marketing campaigns for the widget product lineโ€. In one version the 6% gets skimmed, in the other version it doesnโ€™t. Which do you think you should use?


๐Ÿ’ก Compare the order of the bullets for each of your roles to the job description. Assume the talent acquisition specialist is only going to skim the first 2-3 bullets for your last 2-3 roles. ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€ ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ด๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ฒ๐˜…๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—บ ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฐ ๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด?
