Is it actually ageism…Or a lack of digital fluency?

In other words, are your tech skills getting stale. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗶𝘀𝗺? 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲...

Easier said than done? Perhaps - it definitely takes time and effort. I’ve written a couple of posts already on how to craft your resume when you’re over the age of forty. One area we haven't touched on is keeping your tech skills up to date. And I don’t mean AI. Sure, dabble with AI, figure out how to get something useful from it, all good.

But 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗳𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆. We live in an age of tech abundance. As anyone older and wiser knows, it didn’t used to be this way. But, the internet, Software-as-a-Service, and Freemium business models changed all that.

Think of a category of enterprise software. Customer Relationship Management? 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗴𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲. Hubspot, Pipedrive, Zoho…Project management? Same - Asana, Trello, Jira, Smartsheet…Presentations and publishing? Canva and…well, Canva probably.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝟰𝟬 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵, 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲. The job seeking gods will surely smile on you for it.
